Teresa, your stories are so visceral. My hair stood up on my arms. Tears welled in my eyes. And it’s not the story behind your story… it’s the way you tell your own and how your own youth & age alters in awareness. You have such a gift for telling stories. I hope you put together a huge book of short stores some day. Or maybe you have a novel in the works?

Good catch Teresa. You’ve kept Sadie and Monty alive, maybe for another time but certainly captured the idea. Minds me of John Prine’s “Hello in There”.

Teresa, I really enjoyed reading this piece. I feel like I was in your childhood home with you, interacting with Sadie myself. I would have liked to have met her. Your story made me think of the woman in homer who walks everywhere, hitchhiked, wears dressed and clearly lives of her own accord. Your piece encourages me to converse with her and to not dismiss her because she appears “odd”. Shame on me. Thanks for a wonderful piece of writing…
